LIFE in MIRROR

The Mirror Foundation Chiang Rai office looks like a small village itself. It is located between mountains and there are spaces to live and work along with many beautiful trees, ponds, tiny animals and birds. The place is so peaceful and this makes you calm.
From outside, you will see the vast land scape of neighboring Akha villages. The members working with us are all very friendly and kind regardless their nationality or ethnic groups. You will also see smiling faces of local people and children when you go out to the city.

The life in Chiang Rai makes your mind flexible, so you would discover things which you have never found before or you would discover the other sides of yourself.


ARRIVING

Staff will pick you up at the airport or the bus station in Chiang Rai. In case anything happens, please note the phone numbers of the Mirror office. Also, if nobody is arrives, please call the office or staff before you come by yourself.

WOODEN HOUSE

We have accommodation for members of the foundation inside our place. These are well integrated into environment as the buildings are made of wood and soil.

This is a house for female staff, volunteers and interns and it has two floors. You may share the house with 3～12 people, depending on the period. We have lights inside, of course.


SOIL HOUSE
The soil house is for male volunteers, and made of soil, chaff and straw. A feature of the house is that it is cool in summer and warm in winter. Also, the soil house is environmentally friendly as it minimizes tree logging.  

TOILET AND SHOWER ROOM

The accommodation includes a toilet and shower room (water). In the Thai style toilet, you flush water by hand and this saves water use. Also, the shower is cold water and it would be a good time to take a shower in the hot Thai weather.


MEAL

We have a common kitchen and eat our weekday meals there. The Menu will be Thai dishes but you will enjoy food from all parts of Thailand . This is because our staff comes from all over Thailand . In addition, you can pick up some vegetables from the mountains and use them for the meal of the day. You can also cook your favorite food for the others, so you can bring your own ingredients from home.
Your cooking turn will come around once a week, so let's corporate with others and enjoy your meal!


CHILL OUT

We have a chilling out space to have coffee, chatting, playing guitar and singing in the night.

COMPUTER

We have an ICT room and you can use computers and internet in English. Also, you can use the internet anywhere inside our place with your laptop, using our wireless connection.


CLEANING

We pick up rubbish inside and around our place once in a week, every Monday morning for 15 minutes.

HELP EACH OTHER

Every Monday and Friday from 4pm～5pm, we all do work together. Work depends on the day, sometimes it is cleaning and sometimes it is mowing. Each of our members belongs to different project, so it is a good opportunity to learn about a spirit of cooperation and to know each other more.


EVENTS

We have sports competition sometimes in a year. Members are divided into four groups and compete against each other. Or, we do competition with the other villages, it is fun for all. In addition, we have some parties for birthday, farewell, and staff of the month.

 


LEARNING MORE!!

For your perfect weekend, you can spend time to learn weaving, Thai dancing and instruments, and get Thai massage qualifications in the city. Please enjoy your weekend holidays!

Note: you can get local friends and learn dance and instruments from your friends for free but you need to pay your own expenses to learn weaving and massage.
